Before the Cold Sets In: Setting Up Home Charging for a 2027 Cadillac Lyriq

The best time to sort out home charging for your 2027 Cadillac Lyriq is before the cold weather arrives. Electricians book up, outdoor work gets harder and you will want a reliable routine in place before the shorter, colder days.

Setting up home charging is simpler than many new owners expect. This guide explains what your Lyriq can handle, the equipment that comes with it, the options you can add and a short checklist to follow. By the end, you will know exactly which setup fits your home and your driving.

Start With Your Lyriq’s Onboard Charger

Every 2027 Lyriq has an onboard charging module. This part controls how much power the vehicle can accept from a Level 2 charger. The Luxury and Sport trims use an 11.5 kW module. The Premium Luxury, Premium Sport, Signature Luxury and Signature Sport trims also come with the 11.5 kW module, and you can option them with a 19.2 kW module.

Knowing your onboard charger helps you pick the right home equipment. There is no reason to pay for more charger capacity than your Lyriq can use.

With a full charge, the Lyriq Luxury RWD offers 525 km of range, and the AWD versions of the Luxury and Premium Luxury offer 513 km.

Option 1: Use the Dual Level Charge Cord

Every Lyriq comes with a Dual Level Charge Cord. It gives you two ways to charge without buying a wall charger:

  • Level 1: Plug into a standard three-prong household outlet for 120-volt charging at 1.4 kW. This is the slowest option, best for topping up overnight when you drive short distances.
  • Level 2: Plug into a four-prong NEMA 14-50 appliance-style outlet for 240-volt charging at 7.7 kW. This is much faster and covers most daily driving.

If your garage or driveway does not have a NEMA 14-50 outlet, a licensed electrician can install one. The cord stows in the vehicle, so you can also bring it along on trips.

Option 2: Install the GM PowerUp 2 NACS Charger

If you want the fastest charging your Lyriq’s standard onboard module can accept, consider the GM PowerUp 2 NACS Charger. It is a residential charger rated up to 11.5 kW. It is hardwired and comes with its cord, and it requires professional installation, which is not included.

The Lyriq has a NACS charge port, so the PowerUp 2 NACS Charger plugs in directly. The charger is part of the available Charging Essentials Package, which also includes the Level 2 and Fast Charging Adapter Package.

Already Have a J1772 Charger at Home?

Many homes already have a Level 2 charger with a J1772 plug. You can keep using it. The GM J1772 AC Adapter connects your NACS-native Lyriq to J1772 home and public Level 2 chargers.

The same adapter package includes a GM CCS1 DC Adapter. It lets you use DC fast chargers at non-NACS stations when you are on the road.

Your Pre-Winter Setup Checklist

Work through these steps now and your charging routine will be ready when the temperature drops:

  1. Confirm which onboard charger your Lyriq has.
  2. Decide between the Dual Level Charge Cord and a hardwired charger.
  3. Book a licensed electrician for the outlet or charger installation.
  4. Pick up a J1772 adapter if you already own a J1772 charger.
  5. Download the myCadillac app to check your range and use remote start on cold mornings.

The Lyriq Luxury also includes heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated outside mirrors and a heated wiper park. Pair those with remote start, and your cabin can be warm before you step outside.
